A Red Cross Emergency Shelter has opened at J.M. Hill Elementary School for community members of Smithfield Township and Middle Smithfield Township who remain without electricity following the severe thunderstorm that swept through the area on Saturday evening, July 4, 2026, at approximately 6:55 p.m.
J.M. Hill Elementary School is located at 151 Broad St., East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Pets are welcome at the shelter but must be kept on leashes or in carriers. The shelter will remain open until further notice.
In addition to the Red Cross Emergency Shelter, FirstEnergy has established two locations where customers without power can receive free bottled water and ice (while supplies last):
