Last Chance for Pool Vouchers
|
|
|
|
|
Summer is almost out! Don’t miss your chance to get your pool pass. Residents of Smithfield Township can pick up a free 2026 pool voucher at the Municipal Center for discounted resident-rate admission to both Dansbury Pool and the Stroudsburg Pool. This updated dual-pass voucher may be used for daily admission or season passes.
Proof of residency is required when picking up your voucher. Vouchers may be used for individual, senior, or family passes, including season memberships. Pool season is expected to end on August 23 (subject to change).

Data Center Curative Amendment
The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing and subsequently vote on the proposed Curative Amendment (to Smithfield Township’s data center regulations) on Wednesday, August 12th at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Note that this is a regular meeting, so there will be other items on the agenda unrelated to data centers.

Smithfield Gateway Data Center Conditional Use Application
Planning Commission Regular Meeting
Thursday, August 13, 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
The Planning Commission will review the Conditional Use application for the proposed data center at Smithfield Gateway on Thursday, August 13th at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School. The developer will present their plan to the Planning Commission, and the Planning Commission will vote to recommend a course of action to the Board of Supervisors. The Planning Commission’s vote is only a recommendation to the Board, not a vote approving/denying the application. The Planning Commission meeting will not discuss party status for the hearing. Note that this is a regular meeting, so there will be other items on the agenda unrelated to data centers.
Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting
Wednesday, September 9, 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
The Board of Supervisors will hold the first Conditional Use hearing on the data center conditional use application on Wednesday, September 9th at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Note that this is a regular meeting, so there will be other items on the agenda unrelated to data centers.
When the Conditional Use hearing (aka the public hearing) begins on this day, the Board of Supervisors will consider party status requests. Your application for party status must be received at the first hearing. If the public hearing is not complete on the 9th by 9:30PM, the Board will continue the hearing on Wednesday, September 23rd at 6 p.m. at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School.
If the hearing is still not finished by 9:30PM on that day, the hearing will continue to another day, to be determined. The Board of Supervisors will vote on whether to approve/deny the conditional use application once the public hearing is over. Prior to the final vote, but after closing arguments by the parties, the Board will take public comment by those who do not have party status.

Be Prepared: Ready, Set, Check!

Emergencies can happen with little warning, but a few simple steps can help your household respond safely. Pennsylvania’s Ready, Set, Check! guide recommends learning about local risks, signing up for weather alerts, creating a home fire-escape plan, and assembling emergency supplies for your home and vehicle.
Take time to make a household plan. Decide how family members will contact one another, where you will meet if you become separated, and what arrangements may be needed for children, older adults, people with disabilities, and pets. Keep important phone numbers and the location of your emergency kit somewhere everyone can easily find them.
Flooding is Pennsylvania’s most frequent hazard – and it can occur outside designated flood zones. Review your insurance coverage, know your surroundings, and prepare before severe weather arrives.

S’mores ‘n Stargazing A Success
|

S’mores n’ Stargazing was a blast! We were overjoyed to welcome over 80 folks to Waterfront Park on July 31st. We had s’mores, mountain pies, games, bubbles, bugs, and a lot of laughs. Thank you to the Environmental Advisory Council for spearheading the bug safari!
Events like these connect us to our neighbors and bring out the best of our community. We hope to see you at our next event.

EAC Update: Bugs, Ticks & Natural Resources
|
|
|
|
|
Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) Chair Eric White worked tirelessly with Conservation & Recreation Director Dr. Alex Jackson for the best possible bug safari at S’mores ’n Stargazing. Several council members attended the event.
At its July meeting, the EAC recommended that the Board of Supervisors consider discussing possible updates to portions of the Township’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance addressing natural features and historic structures and sites. The recommendation seeks clearer, more consistent standards for features such as scenic viewsheds, trees and vegetation, historic fields and stone walls, and rare or endangered plants and animals.
The EAC also welcomed the Tick Research Lab of Pennsylvania for an informative presentation on tick identification, prevention, proper removal, and free tick testing for Pennsylvania residents. Remember to check yourself, children, and pets after spending time outdoors — especially near tall grass, brush, leaf litter, woodpiles, stone walls, and forest edges. Learn more at TickLab.org.
