EAC Update: New Recycling Center and Mount Minsi Hike
The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), Supervisor Robert Lovenheim, Conservation & Recreation Director Dr. Alex Jackson, and members of the Smithfield community toured the new Waste Management Pen Argyl Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in January. This state-of-the-art facility boosts efficiency up to 87% in processing and reusing recycled goods. That is over 20% more efficient than the previous technology.
An important reminder: with new advanced technology, separating recyclable goods is now even more worthwhile than ever before, as this facility processes recyclables from Monroe County residents and businesses!

In keeping with its commitment to education and culture, members of the EAC joined Conservation & Recreation Director Dr. Alex Jackson for the Mount Minsi Educational Hike on January 17th. A true winter wonderland set the scene as participants ventured along Lenape Lake and Caledonia Creek, including Caldeno Falls (shown in the photo) and the historic Diana’s Bath.

Save the date: On Saturday, March 28th, at 11:00 AM, the Environmental Advisory Council will host the famous Mount Nebo Park interpretive hike. This is the perfect season, before the leaves come out, to see the scenic views over the Shawnee Creek and Marshalls Creek sub-watersheds.
