Smithfield Township is rich with opportunities to take advantage of natural beauty and enjoy recreational activities. Smithfield is home to national, inter-municipal, and municipal parks.

Conservation & Recreation Director

Dr. Alex Jackson is the Conservation & Recreation Director.

The Conservation and Recreation Director manages the parks of Smithfield Township and acts as the primary liaison for all recreational, environmental, MS4 compliance, and park-related items. This includes pursuing and managing park development and use, coordinating various recreation programs and special events for the community, and monitoring and managing the long-term environmental impacts of a developing community.

Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park is operated by Smithfield Township. Located nearby the Township Municipal Center, the park offers many recreational opportunities, including but not limited to three soccer fields, a basketball/volleyball court, a playground, walking trails, a pond, and two roofed pavilions. The parcel of Waterfront Park closest to the Municipal Center also houses our Community Garden & Apiary.

Community Garden at Waterfront Park

The Community Garden is a free and excellent opportunity to try your chance of getting a “green thumb” while meeting members of the Smithfield community. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Gardeners are responsible for the maintenance of their plots, according to common-sense standards in order to keep the garden fun and safe for everyone. Directions: The Community Garden is located across the street from Waterfront Park (1170 Red Fox Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301) and just below the Municipal Center (1155 Red Fox Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301).

Minisink Park

Minisink Park is operated by Smithfield Township and includes a variety of experiences. It is home to three soccer fields, an ADA accessible North trail, and the Brodhead and Cherry creeks. There are plenty of places to explore here. The southern trail (over the creeks) connects you to our neighboring borough, Delaware Water Gap.

Mt. Nebo Inter-municipal Park

Mt. Nebo Park is a regional park jointly operated by Smithfield and Middle Smithfield Townships. Here there are opportunities for catch/release fishing, trail walking, picnicking, and nature observation.

River’s Edge Inter-Muncipal Bike Park

River’s Edge Bike Park is a regional park jointly operated by Smithfield and Middle Smithfield Townships. It offers the unique opportunity of biking on a pump track, enabling advanced bikers to ride extreme turns and make jumps without the need to peddle. This park is currently closed for maintenance and is anticipated to be expanded for inclusion of family biking activities in addition to more advanced challenges. There is not a roofed pavilion at this park.

ATTENTION: Prices Landing Road is a private road, and is not owned by Smithfield Township. That road shall not be used to access the Rivers Edge Bike Park. All public access to the Park is from the River Road entrance only.

Hialeah Picnic Area

Hialeah Picnic Area is administered by the National Park Service. By trail, it is connected to Smithfield Beach. There are ample opportunities for walking and picnicking.

Smithfield Beach

Smithfield Beach is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, administered by the National Park Service. Prime for swimming, sunbathing, boating, and grilling (with your own grill), Smithfield Beach is a great place to spend a warm day.

Marshalls Falls Park

Marshalls Falls Park, spanning 17 acres, is a haven of natural beauty, featuring untouched wilderness and a pristine natural waterfall. The park also includes a new parking lot and an ADA accessible pathway to the Falls. There is not a roofed pavilion at this park.

Even as the Township celebrates opening Marshalls Falls Park, procuring funding for Phase 2 has already commenced. Phase 2 will add additional parking and trail creation.
