The Township is dedicating this page to the development of a light/nuisance ordinance to encourage community input and feedback. This page will serve as the primary source of public documents utilized in the light/nuisance ordinance discussions.
The Township acknowledges that the quality of life and welfare of its residents depends on a strong ordinance that produces reasonable lighting levels for the entire community.
This process will allow the Township to address the elements of lighting management, including but not limited to: lighting level specifications for typical uses, requirements for controlling lighting, curfews, limits on light trespass onto residential uses, maximum mounting heights, aiming and shielding, residential development lighting, protection of lighting poles, lighting-plan submission requirements, and code enforcement.
All documents are available as PDFs to promote accessibility. If you would like Word versions of any document, or would like to submit feedback, comments, concerns, or join the mailing list for this ordinance development, please email Conservation & Recreation Director Alex Jackson at alex@smithfieldtownship.com or attend a public meeting. All public hearings or meetings are streamed via YouTube and are accessible via Zoom. In-person attendance is also welcome.
