Your Newsblast from Smithfield Township

Marshalls Falls Is Now Open!
At long last, Marshalls Falls Park is open. We are overjoyed with the response the opening garnered. It took the better part of two decades to finally see this park come to fruition. Smithfield Township owes a debt of gratitude to many folks.

In 2020, Supervisors Lovenheim and Pride presided over the acquisition of the former Titania house, which allowed for the township to finally obtain the necessary PennDOT permit for the park to open. Construction for the first phase concluded earlier this year and would not have been possible without the acquisition of the house or several grants spearheaded by former Supervisor Barrett.

The invaluable support from Congressman Matt Cartwright, former Senator Mario Scavello, Senator Rosemary Brown, and Representative Probst enabled Smithfield to receive grant funds for construction from the PA Departments of Community & Economic Development as well as Conservation & Natural Resources.

In addition, the Monroe County Redevelopment Authority’s blight removal grant enabled Smithfield to tear down four dilapidated structures. The MCRDA will also be of significant assistance in the next phase of the park.

The Board of Supervisors wishes to extend gratitude to Township Manager Julia Heilakka, whose coordination of these funds and various stakeholders ensured this park would finally open. The Board is also grateful for the efforts of Administrative Coordinator Dyana Salvi and Conservation & Recreation Director Alex Jackson to plan the opening.

Park hours are dawn to dusk. Please be cautious on Marshalls Creek Rd, and be sure to leave the park clean!

Thank you to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Smithfield for being our host site for Pick Up the Poconos this past Saturday! Members of Smithfield staff and the Board came out as well as folks old and new. What a great day! We look forward to an even bigger turnout next time!
