Join us on Saturday, April 4th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Waterfront Park for Smithfield Township’s Hop & Hunt! The rain date is Sunday, April 5th.
There will be 3 egg hunts:
Ages 0-3 at 2pm
Ages 4-7 at 2:15pm
Age 8 & up at 2:30pm
Bring your own basket!
We will also have photos with the Easter Bunny, crafts, balloon tying, and light refreshments. We hope to see you there!

Spring Leaf Pick-Up Dates
|
|
|
|
|
The Department of Public Works will pick up leaves from residents on Township roads beginning on Monday, April 13th and concluding on Friday, April 24th. Any leaves not picked up will be the responsibility of residents.
Residents may only place leaf piles on township roads. Leaf piles should not include apples, sticks, or walnuts. For a list and map of Township roads, click below to download the Township Road Map.
If you reside on a private road but have leaves you wish to dispose of, you may take them to Oak Grove for composting. For more information on Oak Grove, please visit the Oak Grove website.
There are no fees associated with leaf pickup.
Leaf trucks will circulate township roads once per week during leaf pickup. Dates and pickups are subject to change in accordance with weather conditions.

Get Ready for Spring Clean Up!

|
Spring Clean Up will be held Wednesday, April 29th through Saturday, May 2nd from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Municipal Center.
Township Clean-Up is for Smithfield Township residents only. Commercial disposal is forbidden. You must bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, tax bill, rent receipt, etc. All residents are encouraged to take advantage of this annual opportunity to dispose of unwanted household goods.

PLEASE NOTE: Electronic devices covered under the Covered Device Recycling Act (computers, TVs, monitors, printers, laptops, etc.) are accepted free of charge. Vehicles containing only covered electronic devices will not be charged a load fee.

EAC Update: 2025 Annual Report
|
|
|
The Smithfield Township Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) recently delivered its 2025 Annual Report to the Board of Supervisors. Six key highlights include:
- Completion of the Open Space Inventory
- The EAC’s priority list was finalized
- Initiation of Effort to Update Official Map
- Collaboration on Newsletter and Community Outreach
- Educational Tours and Community Events
- Participation in Recommendations on Ordinances, Hearings, and Policies
Of note, PA DEP has granted the Township and EAC’s request for a public hearing on the NPDES Permit Renewal Application by Manwalamink (PA American Water). The hearing will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 6 p.m. at the Smithfield Township Municipal Center.

Recently, the Environmental Advisory Council hosted their Mount Nebo Park educational hike. The hike was attended by nearly two dozen people. Our events are growing! With warmer weather ahead, future events will provide educational and recreational activities for even more people.

Keep Smithfield Beautiful – Volunteer Opportunities

Shawnee Inn – River Road Cleanup
|
|
|
Smithfield residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and make a difference at the Annual Spring River Road Cleanup, hosted by The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on Saturday, April 11th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Volunteers should arrive at 8:45 AM at the Pavilion on the Grand Lawn of The Shawnee Inn (100 Shawnee Inn Drive, Shawnee on Delaware, PA 18356).
This rain-or-shine event is a great way to give back, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with neighbors who care about keeping Smithfield beautiful.
All volunteers are welcomed. Volunteers receive a continental breakfast, a commemorative event t-shirt, and appreciation lunch.

Buttermilk Falls Road Cleanup – Hosted by EAC
|
|
|
The EAC invites residents to celebrate Earth Month by giving back to the community during a “Pick Up the Poconos” clean-up event along Buttermilk Falls Road. The event will take place on Saturday, April 25th at 9:30 a.m. and will focus on removing litter and debris from the scenic corridor leading to one of the area’s most popular natural attractions.
Volunteers 18 and up are encouraged to participate and help preserve the natural beauty that makes Smithfield Township and the Pocono region so special. Participants should dress for outdoor work and are welcome to bring gloves, though vests, trash grabbers, and bags will be provided. The event will be held rain or shine.
The deadline to register is Friday, April 17th at 5 p.m. You must register via the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau link below.
