Updated July 3, 2024
Thank you to everyone who attended the Board of Supervisors' meeting on June 26, 2024. The Board voted to approve the changes.
Smithfield Township Board of Supervisors is working with the Township Planning Commission to update the Standards and Criteria for Wetlands. They are also proposing to delete a section of the Zoning Ordinance on Validity Challenges based on current case law.
To create this draft, Wetland Standards in the Zoning Ordinances of other municipalities in the Commonwealth were cross referenced. The concept to update the standards was originally discussed at a joint BOS/PC Work session in April. A proposed draft based on that discussion was presented to the Board of Supervisors for deliberation on May 8, 2024, and to the Township Planning Commission on May 9, 2024.
As with all Zoning Ordinance amendments the proposed amendments would have to be advertised and there would be a subsequent hearing. This page serves as the point of reference for the public to learn exactly what is being planned, and increase predictability to the community. If any changes occur, or any new documents arrive, they will be uploaded in a timely fashion to this page for the community to examine. Once the date of the hearing is publicly announced, this page will be updated accordingly.
The Board will consider this ordinance at their regular meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 6pm.
