Smithfield Township is dedicating this page to the Conditional Use application submitted by Northeast Pennsylvania SMSA Limited Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless for a proposed wireless communications facility at 107 Shawnee Square Drive. This page will serve as the primary source of public documents utilized in the Conditional Use proceedings. Documents will be made available in a timely fashion upon submission, introduction in a hearing, or delivery to Smithfield Township by professionals or outside agencies.
According to the applicant’s pre-hearing statement, the Verizon Wireless/Shawnee Square proposal is located on property owned by Shawnee Square, L.P., identified as Tax Parcel No. 16.113533 in the R-1 (Low Density Residential) Zoning District. The project proposes a 130-foot monopole with a 4-foot lightning rod, for an overall height of 134 feet. Associated improvements include equipment cabinets on a 10 foot 6 inch by 23 foot 3 inch concrete pad with a canopy, a cable ice bridge, a standby generator, a meter board, and a utility frame. The equipment compound would be enclosed by a 6-foot chain-link fence with barbed wire.
The applicant states that the facility would be unstaffed and unoccupied, with maintenance visits approximately once or twice per month. No water or sewer service is proposed.
The Planning Commission will review the application at their October 8, 2026 meeting. The Board of Supervisors will hold the Conditional Use hearing at their October 14, 2026 meeting. All public hearings or meetings are streamed via YouTube and are accessible via Zoom. In-person attendance is also welcome.
