Smithfield Awarded Grant for Park Security

Monroe County Commissioners awarded Smithfield Township $30,000 for park security via their Hotel Tax program. Funds received enable tourism impact mitigation and tourism promotion.

The Township will use these funds for the purchase of guard booths and security cameras for our parks. The improved infrastructure will allow for better enforcement of the Township’s out-of-county park fee.

Remove Hazards for Snow Clearing

The snowy season is upon us, which means it’s time to remove any hazards for snow clearing. Remember to clear mailbox areas to prevent damage from snow pushed by plows. Keep driveways accessible and remove any roadside obstacles like basketball hoops or waste receptacles. Let’s work together to keep Smithfield’s roads safe and passable this winter!

Eligible Residents Can Participate in Well Water Study

Researchers at Temple University are looking for families who drink water from a private well for a paid study. They are interested in keeping children safe from illnesses that can be spread by drinking water from private wells. Participating families will receive a free UV water treatment device and installation ($1000) and up to $90 in gift cards. Families will receive $100 for referring eligible families to our study.

Families can participate from home. To be part of this NIH-funded study, families must have a child three years old or younger and live in select Pennsylvania counties.

For more information, visit their website below, call them at (215) 204-5124, or email them at wettrial@temple.edu.

Last Chance for River’s Edge Bike Park Survey!

The River’s Edge Bike Park is located at 123 River Road in Smithfield Township (between the Minisink Hotel and Minisink Park) and is maintained by both Smithfield and Middle Smithfield Townships. The existing park consists of a bike pump track, disc golf course, and natural trails throughout.

Smithfield and Middle Smithfield Townships received a grant to develop a Master Plan for future development of the park. Part of that Master Plan includes surveying the public. Please complete the below survey to aid in the development of the Master Site Plan.
