Don’t Miss Hop & Hunt Set for April 19th

Get ready for the Smithfield Township’s Hop & Hunt on Saturday, April 19th! The event will feature egg hunts for children of all ages, crafts, light refreshments, and community partners.

Join us at the lower lot of Waterfront Park, 1170 Red Fox Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Spring Clean Up is Moving Up!

📅 Event Details:

🔹 Who Can Participate? Smithfield Township residents only (bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, tax bill, or rent receipt). Commercial disposal is strictly prohibited.

🔹 What Can You Bring? Items such as furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, batteries, and even lawn equipment are all accepted. (See full list below!)

🔹 What’s Not Allowed? No household garbage, hazardous materials, propane tanks, or construction debris.

💰 Fees Per Load (based on vehicle type):

• Car: $15 | Mini Van/Crossover/Hatchback: $20

• Pick-up Truck/SUV/Utility Van: $30

• Utility Trailer (1 axle): $45 | Utility Trailer (2 axle): $75

• Small U-Haul (6-9 ft): $75 | Larger U-Haul (10-14 ft): $115

• Small Dump Truck (1 ton): $75 | Large Dump Truck (single axle): $175

🛞 Tire Disposal Fees:

• Car tires: $10 | Truck tires: $20 | Large tractor tires: $25

(Maximum 12 tires per household, no tires on rims – rims accepted separately)

Two Opportunities to Keep Smithfield Beautiful

Smithfield residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and make a difference at the Annual Spring River Road Cleanup, hosted by The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort & Keep PA Beautiful on Saturday, April 12th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Volunteers should arrive at 8:45 AM at the Pavilion on the Grand Lawn of The Shawnee Inn (100 Shawnee Inn Drive, Shawnee on Delaware, PA 18356).

This rain-or-shine event is a great way to give back, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with neighbors who care about keeping Smithfield beautiful.

Be part of the effort to keep our region beautiful by volunteering for the Pick Up the Poconos Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 26th, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Organized by the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, this biannual, region-wide event brings volunteers together to remove litter from roads across Wayne, Pike, Monroe, and Carbon counties.

Since 2018, the Pick Up the Poconos initiative has collected more than 45,000 bags of litter across nearly 3,000 miles — a testament to the power of community action.

How to Get Involved:

📝 Register by April 18th

Make sure to select Smithfield Township under the Monroe County drop-down menu. You’ll receive your meetup details around April 19th.

🧤 Supplies Provided

Volunteers will be equipped with trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and other essentials on cleanup day.

🎉 Celebrate Earth Day

After the cleanup, head over to Pocono Organics from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM for an Earth Day Celebration featuring door prizes, complimentary refreshments, educational exhibits, and more.

Meet your fellow volunteers at the St. Luke’s building at Smithfield Gateway (125 Smithfield Ln, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301) in the rear parking lot at 9:15 AM.


PMVB Scholarship Program Closing Soon

The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) is investing in the next generation of tourism and hospitality professionals by offering annual scholarships to local students. High school seniors, technical institute students, and undergraduates at ESU and NCC can apply now for the 2025 program. Applications are due by Wednesday, April 30.


Looking for a responsible way to dispose of your plastic bags and wraps? The Monroe County Waste Authority’s Military Road Recycling Site is now accepting a variety of plastic film materials, helping turn waste into earth-friendly composite decking and railing.

You can drop off:

✅ Case Overwrap

✅ Plastic Shipping Envelopes

✅ Ice Bags

✅ Ziploc & Reclosable Food Storage Bags

✅ Newspaper Sleeves

✅ Bubble Wrap & Air Pillows

✅ Product Wrap (e.g., paper towel packaging)

To ensure recyclability, all plastics must be clean, dry, and free of food or organic residue.

You must be registered to participate. There is no fee for this service.
