10/1/08: Bypass Update: New Website!

Friday, June 6, The BOS attended a meeting with PennDOT and a transportation planning consultant team retained by PennDOT to revise the Bypass plan. This team is meeting w. stakeholders to reassess the bypass and devise an affordable solution.
Your Board of Supervisors advocated strongly for road widening and turning lanes through the existing Marshall's Creek Intersection, and a cooperative transportation plan involving the Mountain Manor project and the existing commercial district. We advocated for pedestrian consideration and the vision of a cohesive village center.
We alerted them to the ever-increasing thru traffic on Hollow, River and Mt. Nebo road, and our concern that as long as 209/7 Bridge North is only two lanes, the bypass will just move the bottleneck south, from 1-80 exit 309 to County Bridge Road, putting more traffic heading north on the secondary roads through Smithfield Township.
The PennDOT team has promised to present the revised plan by Autumn of 2008. It is worthy to note that NPDES permits for the existing proposed bypass plan expire this year.
